EGGSHELLS

Within the walls of an old house, generations of memories linger, shaping its story. A child in the heart of the house, trying to understand the stories she is entwined in. Her gaze shifts between the world outside and the adults around her—especially her grandmother, whom she’s recently begun to see in a new light. Can grandmothers feel unhappy?

Inspired by conversations with the filmmaker’s own grandmother and former neighbor, as well as news articles about elderly women escaping nursing homes through windows, Dei mjukaste hendene (The Softest Hands) explores the role of the elderly through the lens of a child discovering that her grandmother is more than just a grandmother.

Through a series of scenes from their life together, the film delves into an intergenerational encounter, where they confront aging and hidden memories that still linger in the house. An attempt to no longer take the people close to us for granted
